16 week contract, 36 hour guarantee, application for license per acceptance ok, ACLS, BLS, TNCC, PALS OR ENPC

30-bed, unit that provides comprehensive emerg! ency medical and nursing services 24 hours a day for patients of all ages. The QMC Emergency Department is designated, by the State of Hawaii, as the Trauma Center for Hawaii and is designated by the American College of Surgeons as a Level II Trauma Center. QMC has been accredited by JCAHO as a Stroke Center.

A trauma team is available 24 hrs/day, seven-days-a-week, and may be activated by the ER Attending on Duty. A separate Fast Track area is opened from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm for patients meeting the Fast Track criteria. A Stroke Code protocol may be activated on patients meeting the stroke criteria, as well as an acute coronary syndrome may be activated for meeting the ST segment elevation and non-elevation EKG change. The Psychiatric Residency program provides 24-hour psychiatric consultative services as requested by the Emergency Department physician.

Adults constitute 94% of patients seen. The remaining 6% of the patients are under the age of 18. The ! top 10 chief complaints include abdominal pain, shortness of b! reath, chest pain, falls, psychiatric problems, cold symptoms, MVA's, multiple trauma, headache and weakness.

There are three primary treatment areas:
1. Main ER (19 rooms) - All rooms are equipped with monitoring capability, suction, oxygen, and airway supplies. There are some rooms that also have specialized equipment.
2. Psychiatric/Behavioral Health Treatment Areas (6 rooms)
3. Fast Track (3 rooms)

Additional Emergency Department RN requirements include:

  • Current ACLS certification.
  • TNCC certification.
  • PALS or ENPC certification (to be completed within 1 year of hire).
  • Management of Aggressive Behavior Intervention training.
  • At least 2 years Emergency RN experience.
  • Pass QMC administered EKG competency exam (passing score 80% or better).
