Duties Summary:
This position is located in the Employee Claims Division (Worker's Compensation! ) of the Department of Human Resources Development. In this position the Registered Nurse IV performs medical management of workers' compensation cases. Specific duties and responsibilities include reviewing medical records to determine relatedness of injury/illness claimed; visiting injured workers at their homes to ensure receipt of quality of medical care, services and supplies as required by the nature of the injury with cost containment in mind; screening medical bills for relatedness to injury/illness and for physician and hospital over utilization; and conducting educational workshops for the Section and requesting departments covering areas of medical concern (causation, appropriateness of treatment, etc.) and new procedures/equipment affecting cost of this program; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
Basic Education: Grad! uation from an accredited school of nursing.

Profe! ssional Nursing Experience: Inasmuch as many workers' compensation cases involve orthopedic conditions which are frequently associated with neurological involvement and such cases generally require extensive record review, applicants must possess substantial knowledge in these areas in order to properly review such cases and treatment rendered. Requisite knowledges include: terminology used in the diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic conditions, typical diagnostic tests and test results, and typical treatment modalities, and their usual duration. Therefore, in order to perform the duties of this position, applicants must possess one and one-half (1 & 1/2) years of professional nursing experience dealing with patients suffering from orthopedic conditions, some of which involved neurological damage. This experience may have been gained in a hospital and/or physician's office.

Applicant must also possess demonstrated ability to convey medical information to lay i! ndividuals.

One year of this experience must have been comparable to the Registered Nurse III (fully independent worker level) in State service.

Supervisory Aptitude: Applicants must possess supervisory aptitude. Supervisory aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader; or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory or administrative capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.

License:
A. A valid State of Hawaii Registered Nurse license is required.
