Must be proficient in written and spoken English DUTIES:
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a registered, professional nurse practitioner (APRN) who provides clinically and psychosocially complex population of Women Veterans of the VA Pacific Islands Health Care System (VAPIHCS) in Honolulu, Hawaii. The NP performs duties independently and reports to the WomenÂ's Health Medica! l Director, with professional oversight by the Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive and the Associate Chief of Staff, Primary Care. The NP is responsible for assessment, planning, coordinated provision, and evaluation of individual treatment plans for patients receiving care in the WomenÂ's Health Clinic, both for Comprehensive Primary Care and Well Woman exams. Incumbent is also responsible for the provision of care to patients under his/her care, and for collaborating with services, both internal and external to the VA to facilitate care transition in other to effectively meet the patientsÂ' needs. Many of the responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assessing the status of patients, and planning, intervening, and evaluating indicated actions;
  • Engaging interdisciplinary team members in improving the treatment plans of their population of patients;
  • Supporting an atmosphere where caring for women Veterans ! is the foremost concern;
  • Providing and coordinating quality ca! re to fulfill performance expectations;
  • Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to develop, implement and evaluate goals and objective for the WomenÂ's Health and Primary Care Programs;
  • Access and use multiple Electronic Medical Records and data software programs to obtain medical data to enhance patient care.
  • Identified as a Women VeteranÂ's Health Care resource for other Primary Care staff.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commis! sion (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6)

Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Nurse II - Master's degree in nursing or related field w! ith a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
  • Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
Prescriptive Authority: For Nurse Practitioners to be granted prescriptive authority NPÂ's must have current licensure as a Registered Nurse in any state and Current American Nurses Credentialing Center or other nationally-recognized certification as a NP, and completed an approved upper division or continuing education course in pharmacology.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Developm! ent, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel.

The criteria are as follows:
Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization;

Professional Development: performance, education/career development;

Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality;

Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.
