Builds upon varied educational and experiential bases of nursing and other clinical providers for enhancement of competence in clinical practice, promotion of professiona! l development and advancement of career goals. Manages the planning, development, implementation/delivery and evaluation/improvement of education and development programs at medical centers and associated outlying facilities/clinics and/or for education/development services at the inpatient and out-patient facilities. Consults with clinical departments to implement the competency process established for the Region. Conducts educational programs to improve organizational/individual competence.
Essential Functions:
- Assists in the management of the assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and continuous improvement of education programs/services based on the organization's vision, strategic business plan and operational goals.
- Acts as a liaison with National educational resources.
- Monitors operating and capital budgets for all education and associated functions.
- Provides leadership in the implementation and managemen! t of large scale change interventions of which training and de! velopment play a significant part within the Hawaii service areas Hospital Clinics.
- Coordinates clinical placement for all students, as appropriate.
- Provides coaching and consultative services to managers to analyze/diagnose/solve performance problems.
- Interacts with community agencies for the support/provision of education to maintain a competent health care work force.
- Conducts ongoing research of current service issues/theories and state of the art training/development technologies.
- Serves as consultant to clinical departments to ensure success of Regional competency process.
- Reviews job descriptions and consults with managers.
- Develops job specific competency documents and implementation plans with learning methods and validation tools/processes.
- Researches and incorporates scope of practice, age specific elements, and cultural considerations as applicable to areas of competence.
- Assesses p! erformance improvement data and other available information with department managers/coordinators to develop on-going competency plans.
- Determines modifications necessary for improvements in collaboration with managers/coordinators and makes recommendations.
- Reviews and updates competency documents annually or as indicated.
- Applies appropriate theory in teaching and change process.
- Performs needs assessment.
- Plans, designs, develops, delivers, and evaluates educational programs for nursing and allied health care personnel.
- Researches content to provide evidence and/or literature basis.
- Plans, develops, implements and evaluates clinical orientation for nursing new hires, contingent staff nurses, and other disciplines as indicated.
- Coaches other educators to assure accuracy and effectiveness of clinical orientation program.
- Reviews and evaluates clinical orientation content and process and initia! tes revisions for accuracy and appropriateness of content as indicated.!
- Conducts staff education programs in conjunction with clinical orientation (e.g., IV classes).
- Provides educational activities in accordance with nursing Continuing Education (CE) policy to build upon educational and experiential bases of professional nurse for enhancement of practice.
- Evaluates, maintains, and monitors nursing CE programs for compliance with standards.
- Reviews CE activities and updates programs annually or as indicated.
- Manages use of external educators/instructors.
- Promotes effective use of resources.
- Coordinates and negotiates with internal and external resources in developing and conducting high quality, cost-effective, competency-building educational programs.
- Develops audio-visual materials in compliance with KP Brand Identity as indicated for orientation, CE programs, and competency materials.
- Assists and coaches clinical personnel/coordinators in designing, facilitatin! g, and teaching in-services and CE programs.
- Mentors and models presentation/behaviors of KP culture and policy.
- Updates knowledge through continuing education, seminars and professional literature.
- Keeps current regarding education and competency theories.
- Shares learning with peers and others as appropriate.
- Maintains current clinical and technical knowledge/skils.
- Seeks current information regarding nursing issues, trends and community standards available as a consultant for patient care areas.
- May perform patient care to the extent necessary to maintain clinical expertise, competency and licensing necessary to fulfill job responsibilities and to direct the provision of care on the unit.
- Provides direct patient care on an as needed basis.
- Provides services that are within scope of license and in compliance with all legal, regulatory, and policy requirements relevant to clinical role performe! d.

Basic Qualifications:
- Five (5) years of ambulatory primary care or related experience.
- One (1) year of nursing education experience.
- Master's degree in nursing and or education or a related field or six (6) years of experience in nursing administration or education.
- Valid Hawaii RN License (must meet education requirement(s) for Hawaii State licensure).
- Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification.
- Valid driver's license.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize the principles, methodologies and practices of adult education, instructional design, evaluation and research.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills for program coordination/evaluation and working with groups
- Demonstrated ability to use a variety of presentation skills and education and facilitation techniqu! es.
- Computer literacy required.
- Master's degree in nursing preferred.
- Valid Hawaii APRN Recognition (must meet education requirement(s) for Hawaii State recognition) preferred.
- Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) in a related field of specialty as accepted by the Hawaii State Board of Nursing preferred.
- Certified Basic Cardiac Life Support Instructor (BCLS-I) by the American Heart Association preferred.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor (PALS-I) by the American Heart Association preferred.
