Community Regional Medical Center has the only perinatology program in the Central Valley and receives patients from 15 other area hospitals because of its expertise in handling high-risk pregnancies and deliveries. There is a neonatologist on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as well as a respiratory therapist and trained newborn care staff available to care for high-risk babies. We deliver more than 10,000 babies a year and operate the only birth center in the region designated to handle high-risk pregnancies.

JOB SUMMARY
Formulate a nursing diagnosis through observation of the patient’s physical condition and behavior, and through interpretation of information obtained from the patient and others, including the health team. (NPA) Formulate a care plan, in collaboration with the patient, which ensures that direct and indirect nursing care services pro! vide for the patient’s safety, comfort, hygiene, and protection, and for disease prevention and restorative measures. (NPA) Assign and communicate patient acuity accurately. Revise patient assignments based on patient acuity/needs (CMC Standard of Practice). Perform skills essential to the kind of nursing action to be taken, explain the health treatment to the patient and family and educate the patient and family how to care for the patient’s health needs. (NPA) Delegate tasks to subordinates based on the legal scopes of practice of the subordinates and on the preparation and capability needed in the tasks to be delegated, and effectively oversee nursing care being given by subordinates. (NPA) Provide assistance to staff in resolving questions/problems involving patient treatment plans, interpersonal conflicts, medical staff relations, and ancillary care providers. Evaluate the effectiveness of the care plan through observation of the patient’s physical condition and ! behavior, signs and symptoms of illness, and reactions to treatment and! through communication with the patient and health team members. Recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately. Inform the physician of changes in the patient’s condition and modify the plan as needed. (NPA) Act as the patient’s advocate, as circumstances require, by initiating action to improve health care or to change decisions or activities which are against the interests or wishes of the patient, and by giving the patient the opportunity to make informed decisions about health care before it is provided. (NPA) Administer medications to patients according to CMC policy following the 5 Rights of Safe Medication Practice. Observe and report adverse drug reactions to Pharmacy and the physician per CMC policy. Complete documentation according to regulatory and CMC standards.
