Assesses and determines services for all students and staff using established standing orders from Medical Director. Performs initial assessments and treatment of students and staff. Maintains infection control and safety standards in the workplace. Inventories, orders, and restocks medical/pharmaceutical supplies as needed. Keeps accurate records of all treatment and services provided; maintains strict confidentiality of medical records. Provides health education to promote wellness and preventative care. • Assists in the examination and ! treatment of students and staff through the process of triage:! refers more seriously ill or injured students to Emergency Medical Services. Provides direct care for students and staff with minor injuries or illness according to a standard protocol. Screens students for readmission to school following illness or injury and issues appropriate medical excuse. Ensures safe and sanitary conditions in all patient care areas by discarding dressing, cleaning and storing used instruments, discarding outdated medicines and supplies, and storing equipment. • Provides for the medical care and comfort of inpatients such as monitoring vital signs, periodic assessments, serving meals and other light nourishment, changing linens, making beds and arranging for delivery of personal articles, class assignments, books, etc. • Provides health education focusing on the promotion of wellness and preventative health care. • Keeps accurate records of all treatment and service provided and maintains strict confidentiality of medical records. Assists in s! creening student health records for abnormalities and other unusual conditions and review immunization records for completeness. • Coordinates the work and supervises medical assisting staff by reviewing operational needs and strategizing daily work flow needs and issues, if applicable. • Instructs and certifies all staff in CPR / First Aid. • Provides TB clearance for students and staff in compliance with the Hawaii State Health Laws. • Inventories, orders, and restocks all pharmaceutical and over the counter medications, medical supplies and medical equipment. • Accompanies large groups of students on field trips to ensure health and safety standards, as needed. • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Position Requirements
- Five years experience to include two years of directly related nursing experience. • Good interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and relate with students, parents/guardians, and staff. ! • Ability to perform duties without direct supervision. Must enjoy wo! rking with children and adolescents. • Previous supervisory training and/or experience. • Demonstrated knowledge of and/or skill in organizational competencies of accountability, change effectiveness, collaboration and teamwork, communication, Hawaiian cultural commitment, and innovation. • Two years experience in an educational facility, physician’s office, pediatrics or family practice or experience in other licensed health care related positions.
