Supports the athletic director in areas, such as supervising High School sports, event supervision, attending off campus competitions, budgeting, scheduling, equipment purchase and correspondence. Serves as the acting Athletic Director to cover absences. Assists with the planning and development of various athletic programs and ensures that coaches are appropriately selected, and trained to understand the philosophy, values and procedures of Kamehameha Schools. Oversees and schedules the athletic facilities, such as the gymnasium and various athletic fields. Responds to student/athlete, parent, administration and staff queries and concerns in a timely manner. Reviews eligibility lists to verify that athletes are eligible to compete. Works with student athletes on academic probation and provides academic support and guidance necessary for our student athletes to succeed academically. Works to support HS homework policy. Coordinates academic study halls to ensure academic progress. Confers with teachers and counselors as necessary. Assists with the integration of health and wellness into the athletic program K-12. Collaborates with the curriculum coordinators, physical education teachers, school nurses, and other staff to integrate health and wellness into the K-12 curriculum by providing input and knowledge about fitness and athletics. Responsible for helping to develop the strength and conditioning program for the entire athletic program. Oversees all athletic fundraising and booster clubs and works closely with staff, students, parents, coaches, and other volunteers who are assisting with fundraising and booster clubs, to ensure KS policies and guidelines are followed. Counsels student athletes interested in higher education and develops and implements programs that would help place student athletes in appropriate colleges and universities. Serves as primary contact for college coaches visiting our campus.
Position Requirements
- More than 5 years of related work experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to relate effectively with a variety of individuals to include students, coaches, other KS staff, physicians, parents, teachers and administrators.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to develop rapport and trusting and respectful relationships with a variety of individuals listed above and including officials and other external vendors or BIIF administrators.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities simultaneously.
- Previous high school coaching experience, or college coaching experience.
- Ability to work flexible hours to include evenings and weekends on a frequent basis.
- Valid driver’s license.
