About the Position:
Organization: Tripler Army Medical Center, Department of Surgery, General Surgery Service, General Surgery Clinic, Tripler Army Medical Center, HI. This position serves as a Surgical Oncology Nurse primarily responsible for being the agent of continuity for the patient during a multidisciplinary evaluation and treatment plan for cancer. This position is a TERM position. It is temporary and may be extended up to a maximum of four years.

Federal employees in Hawaii are currently entitled to receive a non-taxable, 12.25% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) in addition to the base salary.

DUTIES:
You will provide care to patients/families in general surgery undergoing treatment for a malignancy. You will use advanced clinical skills to assess and triage patients initiating emergency treatment when necessary. You will collects data through interviews, observation, physical examination and review of medical records, evaluating information and make assessment of patientÂ's physical, developmental, social, spiritual, emotional and mental status. You will interpret and report abnormal diagnostic data and changes in signs and symptoms; modifies plan of care accordingly. Case manages the most complex surgical oncology patients. Actively participates in a multi-disciplinary discharge planning teams, clinical pathway development and implementation to identify the most cost-effective options or alternatives for treatment. Acting as a patient advocate refers patients and or family members to health professionals in other fields, i.e., social work, dietary, chaplains, psychiatry, American Cancer Society, Home Health Care Agencies, Hospice. You will generates statistical reports regarding access to and outcome of care provided for the purposes of process improvement and ensuring optimal patient outcomes and appropriate resource utilization. This involves computation, analysis, tracing/trending, graphing and preparation of summary management reports.Serves as a resource person to a wide variety of health professionals regarding research related to care and treatment of cancer. You will ensue optimal patient outcomes for patients diagnosed with cancer and his/her family by means of biopsychosocial assessment, coordination with the interdisciplinary services, and evaluation of the nursing process.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Minimum Qualifications:
Degree: Applicants MUST have a degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Licensure/Certification: Applicants MUST have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or territory of the United States. Specialized Experience: One year of experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower level (GS-9) requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience which involves knowledge of a wide range of oncology nursing principles, practices and processes including medical history, physical and emotional assessment, establishment of health and nursing care goals, development of treatment plans, construction and implementation of the care program, and evaluation of the results.

Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience. Personnel security investigation required. A medical examination is required prior to employment. Hepatitis B immunization is required (direct patient contact). This position is covered by the Drug Abuse Testing Program. Applicant drug testing and random drug testing will be required. Mandatory seasonal influenza vaccinations required annually. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. Direct Deposit of pay is required. One year trial/probationary period may be required. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. If selected, official college or university transcripts must be submitted.
